THE PV+ GREENHOUSE

Past attempts to combine PV systems on greenhouses resulted in degradation of agriculture yields and quality to a non-economic level. Following years of research and development, SunBoost has managed to overcome this by the introduction of a highly innovative smart sunlight management, using a special greenhouse design and proprietary optical panels. When Sunlight is in excess, and in periods in which shading would have been used to  protect the crops in the greenhouse from excess radiation, at such times, surplus sunlight is being directed to the PV panels. When sunlight is low and/or in moderation sunlight is being directed into the greenhouse, at these times the PV panels, which are positioned near the greenhouse gutters, are shaded by the adjacent greenhouse roof and therefore do not obscure light from entering the greenhouse.

SunBoost's proprietary optical panels enable angle dependent directing of the light into the greenhouse or onto the PV panels and therefore secure, on an annual basis, profitable  electricity generation.

SunBoost's patented solution is flexible in application and may be integrated with practically any kind of properly positioned greenhouse structures. In particular, the first application is demonstrated with economic, intermediate level, plastic covered greenhouses.

In addition to the significant income from the generated electricity, one of the biggest upsides of solar power generation is its stability, bankability and predictability, thus providing a leverage for financing the investment. In grid connected systems, a power purchase agreement or a net metering arrangement may apply and, in addition to a warranted income the produced electricity may be used in the greenhouse to provide higher agriculture  intensity and increased quality and yield.
In grid independent (nano- and micro-grid) systems the generated power is cheaper than  alternatives by a significant factor.

The PV+ greenhouse will have a great impact for farmers who will gain significant benefits, for agri-investors and entrepreneurs that will be able to initiate bigger agriculture projects at much lower risks, and for impact investors, national and international agencies that will have an opportunity to promote food security, increased sustainable renewable energy generation and better livelihood for rural communities.

Global greenhouse area is estimated at more than 500 thousand hectares. Growth rate is estimated at 5 to 10 percent, with  tens of thousands of hectares being constructed and renovated every year, ensuringa huge market opportunity for SunBoost.
